Title 12 Alexandra Street, Berry [PHO]
Series Berry Coolangatta Shoalhaven Heads - Shoalhaven Image Collection
Notes A representative example of the single storey Federation style shops erected along Queen Street at the turn of the [19th] century. Constructed as a butchery by James Wilson possibly as early as 1892 when the nearby Wilson & Co. stores and residence were completed. The shop remained in use as a butcher's shop until World War 1. Customers were originally served from the shopfront, rather than from inside the store. The wide projecting verandah was designed to shield customers from the elements. The wide windows have wide sills which are actually counters.
